Mini-Workshop

Hi all,
Today was more of conceptual learning as the children needed a little brush up on the basic percentage and measurement concepts in Math. So a mini- workshop on math concepts was conducted so we could kick-start our critical analysis of data which will involve these concepts.

We started off with concepts, then a few examples which eventually led to making real world connections. Finally we used few worksheets to check our understanding.

Children also made it a point to check the quantity of the food wasted by themselves which gave them the exposure they needed and it was hands-on too especially after the workshop.

D -B.I.N

Hiya! It was yet another exciting day in our journey. Ok! Yes the title may be a little confusing; Its nothing but a dustbin speaking out its heart about food wastage.

We had great fun making and finishing off the bin that was discussed about yesterday. Children’s individual works were marked and prioritized which was later collated and it went on adorn the heart of the bin.

Tomorrow we will discuss about our Math mini workshop. Stay tuned!

More of Reflections.. More of awareness!

For the past 2 days, the children indulged in making a bin that speaks its heart out!! Yes! We mean it!
Kids used the RAFT strategy, to vent out the emotions of a bin with regard to food wastage and also it focused on creating awareness.

They wrote individual reflections and later all were collated to make a special bin.

Wait till tomorrow to check out the bin :)

Video time!

On Friday, we were all stung by the weekend hype. Hence we went light and decided to watch videos which would help children emotionally connect to the concept and also it will enable them to feel and understand the empathetic attitude.

They reflected their understanding in the graphic organizer. It was quite interesting to go through some of their work. It reflected their perspectives beautifully.

Poster Making!

Hi all, it has been 3 days since I posted. Actually we were a little busy during the weekends and hence the delay in posting.
Last Thursday, children worked on making a poster individually to create awareness about food wastage.

Kids thoroughly enjoyed the activity and created thoughtful posters with catchy slogans!

Student Questions

Questioning is an important aspect of inquiry and it provokes critical thinking in students and enhances their understanding of concepts in depth. For the past 2 days children involved themselves in framing questions that would enable them to inquire the different aspects of their CI.

After framing questions individually, they collaborated with each other to align the questions with the key concepts. Then they finally chose 10 questions which will best promote their inquiry and made a question tree which will continue to grow further as and when needed during the process.

Children enjoyed making the question tree and it was a colorful one too!

See ya !

Wonder Wall Works!

Today children made a fair draft of their central idea to go into their journal. They also went onto narrow down to the English genre which can be the TD integration to their theme and also which will be effectively useful during their action. Keeping all this in mind, they chose to go with "Persuasive writing". Under math integration they decided to work with "Measurements" and "Calculating Percentages”. They also streamlined their central idea with the 'Science' and 'Social Studies' strands.

Then children worked on framing students' questions- basically provocations to promote and boost the inquiry process.
I will continue about this tomorrow.
Till then, BYE!
