More of Reflections.. More of awareness!

For the past 2 days, the children indulged in making a bin that speaks its heart out!! Yes! We mean it!
Kids used the RAFT strategy, to vent out the emotions of a bin with regard to food wastage and also it focused on creating awareness.

They wrote individual reflections and later all were collated to make a special bin.

Wait till tomorrow to check out the bin :)

Video time!

On Friday, we were all stung by the weekend hype. Hence we went light and decided to watch videos which would help children emotionally connect to the concept and also it will enable them to feel and understand the empathetic attitude.

They reflected their understanding in the graphic organizer. It was quite interesting to go through some of their work. It reflected their perspectives beautifully.

Poster Making!

Hi all, it has been 3 days since I posted. Actually we were a little busy during the weekends and hence the delay in posting.
Last Thursday, children worked on making a poster individually to create awareness about food wastage.

Kids thoroughly enjoyed the activity and created thoughtful posters with catchy slogans!

Student Questions

Questioning is an important aspect of inquiry and it provokes critical thinking in students and enhances their understanding of concepts in depth. For the past 2 days children involved themselves in framing questions that would enable them to inquire the different aspects of their CI.

After framing questions individually, they collaborated with each other to align the questions with the key concepts. Then they finally chose 10 questions which will best promote their inquiry and made a question tree which will continue to grow further as and when needed during the process.

Children enjoyed making the question tree and it was a colorful one too!

See ya !

Wonder Wall Works!

Today children made a fair draft of their central idea to go into their journal. They also went onto narrow down to the English genre which can be the TD integration to their theme and also which will be effectively useful during their action. Keeping all this in mind, they chose to go with "Persuasive writing". Under math integration they decided to work with "Measurements" and "Calculating Percentages”. They also streamlined their central idea with the 'Science' and 'Social Studies' strands.

Then children worked on framing students' questions- basically provocations to promote and boost the inquiry process.
I will continue about this tomorrow.
Till then, BYE!

Drafting the Central Idea

There was a lot of anticipation as children were curious to discuss about their central ideas. They
were given a worksheet and were asked to write and highlight the descriptors in the TD theme. Then
they reflected on a mind map about the key words related to food wastage.

Now each team member’s central idea was discussed in the group and each individual zeroed in
on one central idea that they have framed and went on to rephrase and work on it using the
checklist provided.

Next, these derived central ideas were further narrowed down to correlate all the key concepts.

Finally each came up with a central idea and penned it on a chart. Now, they further refined it
collaboratively and framed their final central idea and lines of inquiry as a team.

They added the fair copy of the derived central idea to their journal. They also finalized on the transdisciplinary integration in Math, English and other sub strands too. this entire process of finalising the central idea, took us about a week which was well worth it, as now children have a clear vision about what their inquiry is gonna be !

The sample will be discussed in detail tomorrow.bye!

Strengthening Our Roots

On the second day of our inquiry, we were into brushing and strengthening our roots. It was all about
the 5 essential elements of PYP which we were discussing about.

Also the children were asked to come up with few central ideas on their own which will encapsulate
the idea of food wastage. The picture below shows each individual's central idea put together as a 'foldable' in a bin template.

Letz see in detail tomorrow, about what they were upto!

Till then, ciya!

First Things First!

We are so excited about our first post! We started our first step towards exhibition by giving a reflection sheet to the children in which they shared their ideas which can be taken into consideration for inquiry.

We usually do our exhibition under the theme ‘Sharing the planet’ and hence students were eager to take up burning issues like pollution, deforestation, healthy lifestyle and FOOD WASTAGE. (P.S: This blog will account the journey of the “ FOOD” team). This particular group of curious young minds were so concerned about increase in consumption of junk food, wastage of food in our cafeteria and so on. When their ideas were grouped and streamlined, it all pointed towards food wastage and its effects. The group then joined thy hands together to be a “TEAM”!

To start off with, they began by framing the essential agreements and prioritized it using the ‘ladder’ graphic organizer.

Here’s the sample!

Thatz for now! ☺
